Thursday Night Football Prediction

Posted: 10/16/2014 by levcohen in Football

Tonight’s game has the potential to become what so many Thursday games have been this season: a blowout. The 1-5 Jets travel to New England to face the 4-2 Patriots, and the Patriots are predictably double-digit favorites. But the Jets often play the Patriots close, especially when they are huge underdogs in Foxborough. The 10 point spread could also be an overreaction, as the Jets are now 0-5-1 against the spread this season and have lost their last two games by 45 total points, while the Patriots have won their last two by 41.

New York Jets (1-5, 0-5-1) at New England Patriots (4-2, 3-3):
Spread: Patriots favored by 10
Over/under: 44
My prediction: I could see this going either way. On the one hand, this line is probably inflated by recent results and the Jets could easily cover, but on the other hand the Patriots are rolling on offense and I don’t see them slowing down tonight. I’ll stick by my mantra of picking Tom Brady over Geno Smith (even -10 points) and go with the Patriots 27-13.
