Louisville-Wichita State predictions

The first final four game kicks off in just half an hour. On the surface, this looks like a lopsided game. #1 Louisville has won three of their four games by at least 20 points, and are the big favorites to win it all now. Plus, after that horrible Kevin Ware injury, they have even more motivation to come out strong and blow out Wichita State. Even without Ware, Louisville is very deep. Usually, a deep college team is one without stars. Not so for this Cardinal squad. They have three quasi-stars in Peyton Siva, Gorgui Dieng, and Russ Smith, the winner of the Midwest region player of the region award. Smith has reminded many of a young Allen Iverson, which is a huge complement for the small guard. #9 seed Wichita State was definitely not supposed to be in the final four. Most people had them losing to Pittsburgh in their first game. There are a few reasons they are here. One is that they are a tremendous rebounding team. They were in the regular season, and they have been in the tournament. The other key stat is their three point shooting. Throughout the season, they were an average shooting team. So far in the tournament, they have made some huge three point shots. In particular, Cleanthony Early and Malcolm Armstead have been terrific from deep. Lastly, they have been clutch. The Shockers have had some close games in the tournament, and they’ve come out on top, despite playing more talented opponents. The problem for Wichita State might be keeping it close so they can get to clutch situations. The Louisville press starts a lot of 8-0 and 14-4 runs, small spurts that don’t seem like much but stake the Cardinals to significant leads. The Shockers need to keep it close, and if they do than they have a chance, but Louisville and their suffocating chance should have a solid chance at covering the 10.5 point spread.

Prediction: Louisville- 78, Wichita State- 64 (maybe if I keep picking against a team eventually I’ll be right)
