Coach Mike Kryzewski announced last year that the 2012 Olympics would be last time he would coach for Team USA. Sources have said, that USA Basketball is trying to convince the Duke coach that he should tour one more time with them. USA Basketball has already announced that they will not announce the coach of the future until once this college basketball season concludes.

Since 2005, when Coach K was hired by USA Basketball chairman Jerry Colangelo, Coach K has coached Team USA in their past 4 major tournaments during Duke’s offseason.

The original plan, was supposed to have a final coaching decision by the end of 2012 to the beginning of 2013. Many believe that if Kryzewski does decide to continue his role, his successor will either be, San Antonio Spurs coach Greg Popovich or Boston Celtics coach Doc Rivers. By late November, Colangelo had not yet talked to either of those candidates.

Last summer, Kevin Durant said of Coach K, “I’m sure we can get him to come back”.
