The Celtics had a great offseason. While some fans were hoping they would blow up the team by trading Paul Pierce and letting Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett go elsewhere (handing the team over to Rajon Rondo), they instead kept Pierce, resigned Garnett to a 3 year deal, and replaced Allen with Jason Terry, a slight upgrade. In fact, instead of blowing up their team they improved it, and now have a lot more depth. General Manager Danny Ainge found a way to keep the current window open, while opening up a window for the coming years. This year, they want to start Avery Bradley at SG because of his great defense, but Bradley is really more of a point guard. So they have 3 great SG’s in Bradley, Terry and Lee. At the big man position they are also very deep, with Jared Sullinger and Fab Melo joining starters Brandon Bass and Kevin Garnett. Watch out for dark horse SF Jeff Green, who is coming off heart surgery and should be at full strength. So this is a very deep team.

Last year’s starting lineup:
PG: Rajon Rondo
SG: Ray Allen
SF: Paul Pierce
PF: Brandon Bass
C: Kevin Garnett

with guys like Stiemsma, Avery Bradley, and Mikael Pietrus coming off the bench.

This year’s projected starting lineup:
PG: Rondo
SG: Bradley
SF: Pierce
PF: Bass
C: Garnett

Projected 12 man roster:
PG: Rajon Rondo, Avery Bradley, Keyon Dooling
SG: Jason Terry, Courtney Lee
SF: Paul Pierce, Jeff Green
PF: Brandon Bass, Jared Sullinger, Chris Wilcox
C: Kevin Garnett, Fab Melo

Projected minutes breakdown:
PG: Rondo (37), Bradley (8), Dooling (3)
SG: Terry (22), Bradley (15), Lee (11)
SF: Pierce (32), Lee (11), Green (5)
PF: Bass (23), Green (17), Sullinger (4), Wilcox (4)
C: Garnett (34), Melo (7), Sullinger (7)

Minutes for each player:
Rondo: 37
Garnett: 34
Pierce: 32
Bass: 23
Bradley: 23
Terry: 22
Green: 22
Lee: 22
Sullinger: 11
Melo: 7
Wilcox:4
Dooling: 3

When good players like Jason Terry (career 34 mins per game), Jeff Green (career 34 mins per game), Avery Bradley (career 16 minutes per game, last postseason 25 minutes per game), and Courtney Lee (career 28 mins per game) get playing time far under what they are used to, you know that team has a ton of depth. It could potentially open up some locker room problems (minute complaints) but with good leaders like Garnett and Pierce in the locker room they should be fine.

Last year’s stats:
Rondo: 12 points, 5 rebounds, 12 assists, 2 steals per game
Garnett: 16 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 block per game
Pierce: 19.5 points, 5 rebounds, 4.5 assists, 1 steal per game
Bass: 12.5 points, 6 rebounds per game
Bradley: 8 points, 2 rebounds, 1.5 assists per game
Terry: 15 points, 2.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 1 steal per game
Green (2010-11 stats, last year DNP): 13 points, 5 rebounds, 1.5 assists per game
Lee: 11.5 points, 3 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 1 steal per game
Sullinger: COLLEGE
